In a pantry, dim and deep, A hole in the wall, secrets to keep, Chewed edges frayed, a dusty brown hue, Where a brave little mouse knew just what to do.
Scared of the cat, a shadow of fright, But cheese was the goal, shining ever so bright. A wedge of cheddar, a tempting prize, Reflected the moon in his tiny, bright eyes.
He peeked from his hole, whiskers a-twitch, The cat was asleep, in a sunbeam’s rich niche. A daring adventure, a perilous quest, To snatch that cheese, and put courage to the test!
He scurried and darted, a flash in the gloom, Past floury sacks, escaping his doom. The cheese was so close, he could taste victory near, Ignoring the whispers of rising cat fear.
A paw stretched out quick! A terrible sound! The mouse tumbled backward, right onto the ground! He squeaked with a start, his heart in a race, Then zipped back to his hole, leaving not a trace.
He huddled inside, a-panting and weak, But a crumb of the cheese, he’d managed to sneak! Safe and sound in his hole, a nibble to chew, The brave little mouse, his adventure was through!
